About the event

🌿 Sophia Circle Invitation 🌿

Join us for Footprints on Sacred Ground, a contemplative labyrinth walk in honour of National Indigenous Peoples Day.

Together, we will gather in the Quiet Garden at St. John the Baptist Anglican Church, located at 67 Fowler Street, Richmond, ON. As we walk the winding path of the labyrinth, we will be invited to reflect on our relationship with the land, with one another, and with the stories that shape the place we call home.

Following the walk, we will enjoy fellowship and conversation together. If you are able, please bring a treat to share during our social time.

Should the weather not cooperate, we have use of the church hall and will gather indoors. If rain is in the forecast, labyrinth walkers are encouraged to bring an umbrella.

There is no need to have experience with labyrinth walking. Simply bring an open heart, comfortable shoes, and a willingness to walk thoughtfully and gently.

We look forward to sharing this meaningful afternoon with you.

🍃 Sophia Circle

A small group gathered and braved the rain in an attempt to meet outside and walk the Labyrinth, however nature had other plans. After a wet start, we reconvened in the Church Hall where we shared the Chinook Prayer, shared teachings and prayed a Prayer of praise (by Mirriam Therese Winter) and used various formats of labyrinths (paper, pillow, the outside one, and a finger labyrinth) to take time to slow down and reflect on the individual intentions we set. After tea, we reconvened as a circle, listening to the Strong Women's Song, speaking of it’s history and the importance to know the history of that song, for things have not changed for indigenous Women incarcerated in Cananda. After, we began sharing our own intentions and ways to honour Indigenous communities in a meaningful way. As our intentions were revealed, we held space and prayer for one another, in celebration and support for the lives we are living. We prayed to the Four Directions (from Earth Prayers from Around the World  Edited by Elizabeth Roberts and Elias Amidon) as a group and closed the circle anointing one another with oil.
